Fines against women’s body autonomy rights

Friday, May 17, 2002

The collective Andrea announced on the 3rd May that will appeal and will not pay to the fine imposed by the provincial Government of Nafarroa.
The Andrea association has announced today that does not have intention to pay the fine of 3,005 euros that the Government of Nafarroa has imposed on to, for distributing the postcoital pill (Day After Pill) during the last celebrations of San Fermín, Iruña/Pamplona’s fiestas.

The Andrea Association has announced today, through a press note, that will appeal the fine of 3,005 euros imposed by the provincial Government of Nafarroa for distributing the post-coital pill during the last celebrations of San Fermín and announced that, in any case, "it is not going to pay it by lack of resources and for considering it an injustice".

In his note, Andrea remembers that the distribution for free of the pill took place on holidays when planning centers (where habitually they are distributed) were closed. According to them they “did not make but fulfill the parliamentary mandate, approved by majority on the gratuity of the post-coital pill in the Navarre public health and with the supervision of gynecologists".

"In Navarre a situation of discrimination is happening and once again Navarrese women are deprived of reproductive rights". The group considered the fine like "the last straw".
For that reason they announce that they will appeal the sanction and that they will not pay it, and called to demonstrate on 28th May against this injustice.
