In 1997 the Herri Batasuna leadership was sent to jail on the
basis of "promoting terrorism" by showing a video stating
ETA's declarations. The pro-peace-process organisation Elkarri
was also banned from showing this video, under the same pretext.
As with the rest of the information we distribute, there is no
collective position on the issue, but we believe information from
both sides of the Basque conflict are needed in order to understand
it. In this case, ETA's statements and demands are ignored by
the media and institutions. However, after 35 years of activity
ETA is determined to keep going and still has great support amongst
the Basque population. Under the new British anti- terrorist act
ETA is a banned organisation; however, whoever reads the following
interview will find that this is not terrorism promotion, simply
publicising the position of a political group.
